The superficial understanding of epilepsy is that you have a region of brain cells that fire excessively, causing problems. If we can lock down the action of these cells, everything’s all good.
Disorders of the mind have never been as easy to grasp for doctors. While therapists have a larger toolbox, most physicians are limited to medications.
For me, medications that screw with the essential way that your brain cells function in relationship to one another are a wee bit on the scary side. We really know so little about the brain so it seems that using medications to alter it would be akin to cavemen using rocks to fix an iPad.

Speaking of inflammation, put migraines on the list of conditions associated w/ inflammation. The problem with this is that that makes migraines a local manifestation of a systemic problem. So, just treating the headache w/ pain meds does nothing the address the underlying inflammation, leaving the patient at increased risk of a hoard of other chronic diseases because this was not addressed. Lifestyle changes geared towards lowering inflammation HAS to be a part of any migraine treatment protocol.

Having been active on several of the larger Facebook migraine groups, the attitudes seem to be split. There are those who are seeking answers because they know that there is an answer someone out there. The others are there for support because they do not ultimately feel like there is a solution for their chronic headaches. This group does not like to see the word “cure” anywhere near chronic migraine headaches because they do not believe that there is such a thing.
